A propos du projet:
Le village Huruma se trouve environ à 2 km du Siège des Nations Unies de Nairobi, à Gigiri et jouxte la forêt Katura ainsi que la rivière Ruaka.
Le projet du village Huruma comprend deux volets: Les bio-latrines et la plantation d’arbres dans les forêts dégradées.
Huruma est un projet pilote à buts multiples qui combine à la fois l’amélioration sanitaire, la promotion de l’énergie renouvelable, la capture du carbone et la génération de revenus. Planter 100000 arbres permettra de contrer les émissions de carbone et de promouvoir la neutralité du climat. Cette plantation se fera en impliquant la communauté Huruma en la familiarisant avec plusieurs projets tels que la sériciculture (élevage de vers à soie), l’apiculture et de meilleurs équipements sanitaires. Le projet fournit ainsi des stratégies de réduction de la pauvreté. Si le projet pilote fonctionne, sa réussite pourra être partagée avec d’autres communautés et bénéficiera à une large population vivant dans de mauvaises conditions.
Cérémonie inaugurale le 14 février 2008
Plusieurs entités contribuent à ce projet. Le 14 février 2008, la première phase de la plantation sera inaugurée par Achim Steiner, Directeur Exécutif du PNUE, Ms. Anna Tibajuka, UNDP Coordinator, H.E. Zhang Ming, Director of Kenya Forest Service, Director of EABL . 3000 arbres seront plantés sur la parcelle allouée de la forêt katura et l'Ambassade de Chine remmetra un chèque pour financer la première bio latrine. |

Huruma Village is a slum about 2 km from the United Nations Offices in Nairobi, at Gigiri and contiguous to Karura Forest and Ruaka River.
The Huruma Village Project comprises two parts: Bio-latrine and Tree-planting for degraded forest.
This Project is a multi-purpose pilot project which combines sanitation improvement, renewable energy promotion, carbon sequestration and income-generation together. The project is focusing on promotion of climate neutrality through tree planting (100. 000) to offset carbon emissions.By involving the Huruma Community in the project, and introducing them to various enterprises, such as sericulture, bee-keeping and improved sanitation facilities, the Project will be attempting to provide poverty alleviation strategies for similar communities like Huruma. This will be measurable, and shall be a concrete step taken by UNEP towards poverty alleviation in Kenya.
Ground breaking ceremony on 14th Febuary, 2008
Several entitites support Huruma village. Mr. Achim Steiner, Ms. Anna Tibajuka, UNDP Coordinator, H.E. Zhang Ming, Director of Kenya Forest Service, Director of EABL Foundationwill be invited to attend this ground breaking ceremony which will be held at the proposed site of the Bio-latrine in Huruma village . It is proposed that the check donation ceremony (Chinese Embassy) and the tree-planting ceremony (The East African Breweries Limited Foundation) will be combined in this ground breaking ceremony. EABL Foundation has made a donation to support planting of 3,000 trees on 3 hectares on the day. |
